Mme King

Bonjour! My name is King-Keo Hanphiboune.

This is my first year at Henry Heights. I am new to Calcasieu Parish. I taught 3rd grade in New Iberia for 2 years before coming to Lake Charles, so this is my third year in Louisiana.

I used to teach in Montréal, in the province of Québec, in Canada. 17 years in all! I started my career there as a 3rd grade teacher, after a few years, I volunteered to take a combined class of 3rd and 4th graders (because of student numbers). I did that for about 8 years, then I was asked to take a 4th grade class which I taught until I came to Louisiana.

I was born in Laos. My family of Chinese origins immigrated to Canada when I was 7 years old. We arrived in Montréal in December, under snowy conditions! There was no snow where I lived in Laos! I did not speak French nor English then! At the time, there were special schools and classes in Montréal to let the children learn the French language. I was moved to a regular class after about a year. I had to learn fast!

I have a Bachelors in Education for Early Childhooh and elementary school (4 years of university in Québec). I also have a Bachelors in Science and a certificate in intervention with children.

When I am not teaching, I spend time with my husband and son. I love to read and practice calligraphy. I speak French, English, Lao (2 dialects) and Thai.
